Su Business Management potete leggere un articolo dal titolo: "Is Six Sigma Still Needed?".

Questa è la versione tradotta in italiano con il traduttore automatico di Google.

Six Sigma is very much here to stay and is needed and proves useful even now.

Utility in Different Sectors

Six Sigma is useful to bring in process improvements in financial sectors such as the banking and insurance industry.

It has been put to great effect in customer support services such as back office operations, telecommunications and call centers.

Is It Useful Even Now?

Six Sigma is applicable even in current conditions. Companies have come to realize the importance of customer satisfaction to company success. Six Sigma bases improvement initiatives on customer requirements.

An integral part of Six Sigma initiatives is listening to the voice of the customer. Understanding customers' requirements and needs has taken priority. A customer's quality expectations can be determined in the measure phase of DMAIC methodology - and from here on out, the improvement process moves ahead to match the requirements.

Six Sigma is useful in the IT industry as well. If we consider applying Six Sigma to software projects, the benefits of are critical to profitable implementation of software projects.

When Six Sigma helps reduce defects, software projects reap the benefits of low-level maintenance and fewer defects. They are able to profit from automation bringing about faster cycle times, which helps ensure time to market for new products.

Automation, and the use of information technology in most business processes along with Six Sigma, can be of immense help for better software product delivery.

Six Sigma deals with, and gives more importance to, addressing costs and returns on investments (ROI). Six Sigma projects are mostly drawn from problems identified through systematic collection of data.

Problem areas are identified, and solutions found by restructuring processes or even redesigning products. Six Sigma projects are handled by Green Belts, Six Sigma Black Belt, and Master Black Belts, at different levels. These people are experts in using Six Sigma tools and techniques.

Green Belts mostly undertake projects that are at their process area level while Black Belts and Master Black Belts undertake project at higher levels. They ensure that projects undertaken by different people at lower levels are coordinated to achieve success at the macro level. Aligning projects to organization goals is relevant to the success of projects.

A proper restructuring of processes helps in ensuring that improvements and the subsequent benefits are sustained over a long period of time. It not just about hiding the cracks in a wall - but ensuring that it is properly cemented to stay strong for a long time.

The applicability of Six Sigma in current conditions is even more fruitful than in earlier times. It is necessary to have Six Sigma implementation in most companies, both to reduce defects and improve customer satisfaction.
