They will ensure that the company’s delivery of Six Sigma training is up to scratch by maintaining the integrity of the measurements as well as developing the training materials used to get the company running smoothly. Their role is to take an overview of the entire project and to do what is necessary to improve its delivery, which can involve managing one or more Black Belts. A certain amount of delegation will therefore be necessary and by knowing when to delegate – and whom to delegate to – the Master Black Belt can act as a facilitator.

A good Master Black Belt will be someone who has familiarity with statistics that goes above and beyond what the typical Black Belt can boast. Their ability to interpret data and make changes based on their findings will often be absolutely vital to the accurate and timely completion of a project. It may seem that this is something that a Black Belt could do, at a reach, but the Master Black Belt’s main selling point is that they do not need to reach in order to deliver such a level of management ability – they are already at that level and can enable everyone else to work at their highest grade.
